Triathlon Training Program

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any member of Anytime Fitness who would like to. Trust me: YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The 12-week training program is $150. (Race entry fees are additional.)

WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
Written weekly workouts will be provided. Each Saturday at 9am we will meet as a group for either a swim & run or a bike & run workout. PLUS we will have “clinic” each week on the following: Swim, bike, run, strength training, nutrition and transition. Those clinics will be either Wednesdays or Thursdays at 7 pm. We will teach you everything you need to know from A to Z to successfully complete a sprint distance triathlon or Olympic distance triathlon

WHEN DO WE MEET?
Group workouts will begin Saturday, April 25h, at 9:00 am. They will be held each Saturday at 9:00 and will last a couple of hours. Then on either Wednesdays or Thursdays at 7 pm, we will meet in various locations for clinics.

WHERE DO WE MEET?
Saturday group workouts will either be at Martha Lake when we swim or at the Centennial Trail in Lake Stevens when we bike. The clinics will either be at the gym, Martha Lake, a public pool to be determined, a public track to be determined, or Centennial Trail.

WHAT IF I CAN’T GO TO EVERY GROUP WORKOUT?
We understand that not everyone will make it to every workout, and that’s okay. The more you can make it to, the better.

WHAT IF I CAN’T RUN?
Not everyone is a great runner. You can walk during the race as much as necessary, and that’s okay. Don’t let the running stop you. During the 12 weeks, your cardiovascular strength will improve, and you’ll be able to run more than you probably thought you could.

WHAT IF I CAN’T BIKE?
You must know how to ride a bike and have one in good working order that you can ride regularly. We will work on some bike handling skills and practice makes perfect!

WHAT IF I CAN’T SWIM?
Each participant needs to have some ability to swim. We will not be providing swim lessons. We will be teaching techniques, giving you drills to work on during the week, and helping with the fear of open water

HOW MUCH TRAINING WILL I NEED TO DO?
Training for a sprint distance triathlon will require approximately 30 minutes to an hour four days a week with a longer workout on Saturdays. Training for an Olympic distance triathlon will require approximately 1 to 1.5 hours four days a week with a longer workout on Saturdays.

WHAT DO I NEED?
Each participant will need a bike, a helmet and running shoes. I highly recommend a tri-specific wetsuit. It will make the swim much easier! Triathlon-specific clothing is nice, but it’s not a must. I wear the same tri shorts and shirt through the swim, bike and run. You will also need swim goggles.

WHAT IF I CAN’T COMPLETE THE PROGRAM?
There will be no refunds given after the first group practice. If you are unable to complete the program, we will still provide you with the weekly workouts if you’d like them.

WHAT RACE ARE WE TRAINING FOR?
We are training for the Seafair Triathlon on July 19th in Seattle. This is a great race. It’s well organized, has a flat course, and also has a group you can start the race with called “Friends and Family” so you can start the swim with your friends and/or family and not go out by age and gender. You can also opt to go by age and gender. That’s called “age group” and we can explain that more. For those going for the Olympic distance, we will be training for the Federal Way Triathlon on July 26th.

WHAT ORDER DOES THE RACE GO?
Swim, Bike then Run.

HOW LONG IS THE RACE?
The sprint distance Seafair triathlon is a 750 meter swim, 12 mile bike, and a 5K run (3.1 miles)
The Olympic distance triathlon is just under a 1-mile swim, 26 mile bike, 10K run (6.2 miles)

WHICH DISTANCE SHOULD I DO?
Unless you’ve done a triathlon before, we highly recommend you train for the Seafair Sprint Distance Triathlon. Those who have raced before and would like to take it to the next distance, then the Olympic distance is for you.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
You can pay over the phone with a credit card or come into the club and pay by cash, check or credit card. Waivers will be given on the first day of practice.

WHY SHOULD I DO THIS?
Because there is nothing as rewarding as crossing the finish line after you’ve worked so hard to do so. The feeling is amazing! You will be doing something very few people will ever have the guts to do! You may do this and know that you will be a lifelong triathlete, or you may do this and just be proud you did one and will never do another. But to say you’ve done one gives great bragging rights!

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?
Talk to Jennifer 
